"She Who Can"
The creation of this painting was a key piece of Luna, Our Lady Lodge: A Sacred Retreat into the Heart of the Blessed Mother four day retreat held in Kenwood, California led by Shiloh Sophia and Christine Arylo.
The intention and purpose of the retreat was to encourage healing through sacred rituals with the Great Mother. Through the process of Intentional Creativity, each attendee painted an image of “The Lady” to serve as a touchstone for continued guidance in healing.
In preparation for the retreat, we were asked to inquire of our self what part or area needed connection with the Great Mother to initiate healing. Christine asked us to explore our “Love Cracks,” those parts that “keep us separate from our deepest connection with and expression as the divine feminine.”
“These wounds, cracks, are how the fear and separation get in, and how your power, your sense of self, your feeling of safety, joy and remembrance of who you are get diminished. Part of our journey at this time as women is to expose these love cracks, see them clearly, and then choose with devotion to ourselves and the divine mother to heal them with love, by turning them over to her in love, again and again.” (C. Arylo)
After contemplation, my “Love Crack” was the fear that I am not safe to be me, my True Self. This is a feeling originating in my childhood and continuing to fracture throughout different aspects of my adult life. My intention was to be open to receive guidance and healing in order to shift into the belief that "I AM safe to express my LOVE!"
As the retreat unfolded, prayers were offered in surrender:
Blessed Mother, give me PEACE in KNOWING and NOT KNOWING! 5.22.2014
Blessed Mother, Blessed Sister!
I lay my head in your comforting lap. I gratefully accept your stroking,
your nurturing Spirit.
I am exhausted, exhausted of fighting myself. I surrender!
Show me an easier way! Show me Grace & Ease!
Help me to step into myself. Help me to allow my gifts.
Help me to accept myself, to be gentle with myself.
Grant me Peace within. Thank you, mi Madre! Thank you!
Ground my feet. Grant me wings.
Show me how to walk the worlds. Show me how to soar thru the heavens.
I am Loved. I am LOVE. I am opening to be more fully present! ~sfr 5.23.2014
Written upon the canvas, My blessed Mother, Great Lady, LOVE! Show me, show me how to FREELY Express my TRUE Most High Self! I surrender! I receive! ~sfr 5.23.2014
The retreat was held outside in a garden filled with roses and lushness. The portal was opened on the canvas with a heart, then The Lady begin to slowly emerge. Colors and symbols and more prayers/intentions originated in guided meditations. I found it significant that during one key meditation, a child in the adjoining park could be heard calling, “Mama.”
Take my tears, take my fears. Transform them, show me the Blessing not the Burden. Give me a fresh new, open heart. I AM Safe! Show me I AM provided for in abundance! Open my eyes. All with Grace & Ease! ~sfr 5.23.2014
There were hummingbirds and butterflies flitting through the sacred space, and a statue of the Great Lady overseeing the gathering. For me, the butterflies & hummingbirds symbolize our connection to Spirit. They seem to be our messengers between the worlds, travelling through the ethers, whispering in our ears and to our hearts.
In the Intentional Creativity process you are always in communication with your emerging “being,” listening for inspiration. At one stage you are asked to sit with your painting in dialog. Part of my dialog was as follows:
I don’t know if I can do what you’re asking me, Lady. You’re asking me to work both worlds, the old paradigm & the new. Will it be too shocking? What if it’s too big of an idea? What if I fail as I have failed you before?
Her answer: Daughter, we all think our Great Work is too big, too hard. We all have these doubts. We all fear failure. Breathe into your deep belly. Have you not ALWAYS been cared for? Have you not always been Guided? ~5.24.2014
In dialog is where she told me her name “She Who Can!” In Trust, in Joy, and in Love, I CAN be safe to express myself, I CAN walk both worlds.
Inserted behind the canvas, there is a red envelop with her message:
Be still. Look forward. See that ALL is possible. You are “She Who Can!”

"She Who Can" is a beautiful and powerful energetic addition to my treatment space, my temple of healing. She is so perfect it’s almost as though I commissioned her to my specifications. Her message of peaceful empowerment is universal, and exactly what healing is all about. Thank you so much for this inspired piece! ~Carol (Houston, Texas)
The sides of my paintings are painted red to honor the “Red Thread” tradition of many cultures. This tradition says that people who are destined to meet are connected by a red thread from birth. The thread may tangle and stretch, but it will never break.
