"Trust, Chica" (Blue Muse)
The theme of “Blue Muse” was an “impossible story,” something that had me feeling “blue.” The music of John Coltrane and paintings by Modigliani inspired the process. I was seeking peace with the recent ending of a close friendship.
The canvas was blessed with holy water, an intention inscribed on the surface.
I am bringing my fears & doubts of moving forward in my life.
I forgive myself & others, and ask their forgiveness for Peace.

The initial colors were applied free-form as I poured all my “blues” onto the canvas. A jagged line of demarcation represented the line of the “unavoidable tragedy,” to remind me that I could not have done anything differently to prevent the situation which occurred. The incident was NOT meant as a punishment, and through this process, I am choosing to heal and let go of the hurt.
Modigliani’s Jeanne Hebuterne and Jeanne Hebuterne in a Large Hat were my choice of inspiration as my lady began to emerge from the canvas. Symbols and patterns were added with each layer of paint, reminding me that life does continue even when we imagine we cannot bear it. Colors were added representing the fog and the darkness we feel we are wandering in when those seemingly impossible things happen, often blind-siding us.
This sassy lady asked to be called “Beverly,” and had a message to share with me about the loss of my friendship.
“Silly Girl! How can you think your friend meant any of that?!?
You know their soul, they know yours! Allow the mystery!
Maybe the friendship comes back, maybe it doesn’t, but what was is always yours!
...the relationship was becoming a distraction. You have delayed long enough.
Get busy doing the things you need/want to do despite others….
Refocus, Honey! It is OK! You are FINE!
Try to lighten up. It will get you through faster, back to LOVE! …
Open your vision wider! … Trust, Chica! Trust and know you are LOVED!
This painting process began healing my “blues!” I know and am able to remember that even though my friend chose to leave our friendship, the lessons and the blessings are always mine. I can choose to TRUST and move forward!

The sides of my paintings are painted red to honor the “Red Thread” tradition of many cultures. This tradition says that people who are destined to meet are connected by a red thread from birth. The thread may tangle and stretch, but it will never break.
